Protecting personal data is a task that falls on all businesses when obtaining and maintaining electronic information.   Over the years, the issues and legislation surrounding data protection have become tougher, so much so that now unlimited fines can be issued for mis-use of data. 

There is a legal requirement for all firms processing electronic data to comply with the rules laid down by the Data Protection Act.  The Information Commissioner is the body that has the power to fine. 

Our View

Any firm that you deal with that keeps electronic data has to ask for your express permission to pass it on to other people and organisations.  If you do not give your permission but your personal details are passed on, you can ask for the firm to be fined. 

At , we do not pass your details to any other organisation but, beware of those that do and investigate if you start receiving unsolicited calls, emails and post.
