Beware Data Protection Act Registration Spoof

Published / Last Updated on 04/09/2003

For business owners who hold data about clients in an electronic format you are no doubt aware that you have requirements to be registered with the Information Commissioner under Data Protection Act laws.

The cost to register with the Commissioner the information that you generally hold in the course of business is just £35.

There are currently a number of organisations who may be targetting your business posing as representatives of the Information Commissioner checking up on you and quoting £95 to get you registered.

Indeed , and a relative of one of the Directors who runs another business in an entirely different sector, was approached some months ago and they were given short shrift!

If you hold data then you need to register.  Make sure you pay £35 and not the £95.  Visit the Information Commissioner's website for details.
