Bank Levy Increase by GBP2.5bn

Bank Levy Increase by £2.5bn.

To raise an extra £800m, the government will increase the levy on banks to £2.5bn this year.  According to Chancellor George Osborne, the tax was being brought forward before banks announced their bonus payments.

According to BBC business editor Robert Peston, the leaders of the four biggest UK banks are livid at the announcement.
