Atol Holiday Levy Up by £1.50

Holidaymakers will have to pay an extra £1.50 per person when booking a holiday to cover increased contributions to the Atol protection scheme.

The scheme, similar to the financial services compensations scheme, is funded by levy on holidays books.

The £1 levy is increasing to £2.50 to cover the costs of failed holiday groups when travellers are left stranded overseas or indeed never made it on holiday after paying.

Last year, XL Leisure failed and many thousands had their holidays cancelled or where left stranded overseas, including two directors here at Need An Adviser.  They and many thousands of others have since received compensation.
