Anglo Irish Bank Nationalised

The Irish Government is to nationalise the Anglo Irish Bank after liquidity problems have continued for the leading Irish Bank.

The Irish Government was going to inject €1.5bn (approx £1.4bn) in capital but a decision has been made that it is in the best interests of the Bank, Investors and confidence in the Irish Banking system that the Irish Government takes control.

In short, this means that all investors in Anglo Irish Bank, both in Ireland, the UK and Offshore now have their investments 100% backed by the Irish Government, which is more security than others.
