Alcohol For Stressed Out Britons

According to a recent survey by Datamonitor, British people drink far more alcohol to cope with stress, compared to any other Europeans.

Last year Britons spent over £20bn on alcohol, compared to £90bn for the rest of Europe altogether.  Looking at the figures, alcohol purchases relating to stress are on the up.  Is it stress levels on the up or are people drinking more generally?
