Research by Virgin Money Insurance has shown that nine out of ten people in the UK want the right to be able to defend themselves against burglars, and would be prepared to be ‘have a go heroes’ should the need arise. The report also suggests that one in six people sleep with a weapon close to their bed.
Our view
Everybody has the right to feel safe in their own home. This is part of the Human Rights Act. If somebody breaks in and gets hurt, they should not have been there in the first place! It is totally unfair that you can be prosecuted for bodily harm to a burglar. No wonder Foreign Nationals laugh at us Brits!
