Work for Nothing _ BA Staff Told

Work for Nothing - BA Staff Told

In another indication of larger companies suffering in the recession, British Airways has made a request that its staff work for a month with no pay to keep the company ‘flying’.

The company posted record losses last year of £401m and even CEO, Willie Walsh, has agreed to forgo his £61,000 per month salary in July.

Staff are believed to be upset at the request and we suggest this may be a little short sighted.  Those that do volunteer for a ‘payment holiday’, we suggest, will be better placed when job cuts come or indeed when promotions and pay rises are available.  At least they will have tried to show willing and keep a job.

We have a saying at Need an Adviser: “you are either in the boat with me rowing in the same direction, or you are not”.  Those that are committed to BA and wish to have a future job next year and the year after will no doubt take a month less salary this year.
