Research from Friends Provident has found that a pensions crisis is threatening for women.
Their survey found that only 6% thought that they were saving enough for their retirement, while 46% said that they don't expect to receive a private pension!
The provider found that 1 in 10 women are optimistic about their retirement, as they think they are too young to start thinking about their pension! The report showed that 28% of women want to retire at 60, while only 13% of men expect to retire at the same age. The problem is being made worse by the fact that women are living longer, and so may face a greater risk of a pensions shortfall.
Our view
It has been well documented on this site that women need to plan for retirement. Visit our womens section in the Pensions Adviser.com.
There is even a State Pension Age Calculator for women.
