Warning HMRC Scam Telephone Calls.

A member of one of our director’s family has this week received a telephone call supposedly from HMRC.  The call sounded genuine, an automated message without a foreign accent and went along the lines of:

“Hello, this is a call from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, we are calling today to inform you that we are issuing a notice that we are taking legal action against you to recover unpaid tax.  To speak to one of our advisers please press 2 to talk about your case”.

Immediately, the call was hung up.  However, it appeared genuine and no doubt would likely to transfer you to a person who may take your bank details or to a premium charging line (as you would have pressed 2) to call another line.

HMRC will rarely telephone you under these circumstances, they write to you to serve legal proceedings.  Watch out for calls like this.
