Unemployment: UK 11 Year High and US 7 Year High
The number of people in the UK seeking work has shot up by 140,000, to 1.82 million it highest level since 1997.
The unemployment rate rose to 5.8%, up from 5.4% in the previous quarter, according to official figures. Many are predicting that unemployment could top 2 million within months and 3 million by 2010.
