Unemployment Rises To 2.7m

According to the Office for National Statistics, UK unemployment rose by 118,000 in the 3 months to November 2011, it now stands at 2.68m.

The unemployment rate was 8.4% of the economically active population.  The number of unemployed people has not been higher since 1994 and the unemployment rate has not been higher since 1995.

The unemployment rate for 16-24 year-olds is now 22.3% with the number of unemployed in this age group rising to 1.043 million.
