UK Unemployment Drops.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has produced figures that show a fall in unemployment, which now stands at 7.2%. However there are concerns that the rate at which unemployment is falling may be slowing.

Unemployment in the 3 months leading to December saw unemployment fall by 125,000 to 2.34 million. Estimates show that 193,000 more people were in work between October and December than the three months before.

The figures also showed that average earnings increased by 1.1% last year.

The number of those claiming jobseekers allowance fell by 27,600 in January to 1.22 million. The total number of those in employment in the UK now stands at more than 30 million, an increase of 0.6% from the year before.

The ONS figures showed unemployment at 7.1% which is lower than the predicted 7.2%. However the ONS said not to rely on a single months figures as more overall figures are taken quarterly.
