UK Growth Estimates Fall

by Ashley Clark, Director

The Office of Budget Responsibility has downgraded growth forecasts for the UK for 2011 to 2.6%.

The newly created public body was implemented by the coalition government to ensure that economic forecasts were independent of politics.

Whilst the forecast is lower than anyone expected, the markets have reacted well to the news.  This is probably because they have a lot more faith in an independent body setting growth forecasts than a government trying to manipulate them.
