Tory Vote Chasing On Taxes

Published / Last Updated on 26/09/2007

The right wing Competitive Challenge working group are urging the government to abolish inheritance tax as they say it penalises too many middle-income families.

Due to the rising property prices many households find themselves above the £300,000 payment threshold.  They are also recommending that capital gains tax should not be payable for assets held for ten years or more.

Our view

This is pure vote chasing.  Which all parties are very good at.  We think it was the Liberal Democrats who were banging the drum just two months ago.  Reality means that we have to pay to taxes to fund this country.  There are two many takers and not enough givers.  Expect no changes in these areas of taxes.
