Tories More Tax Cut Proposals

Published / Last Updated on 02/02/2005

Shadow Chancellor, Oliver Letwin, has proposed that the tax threshold at which people pay 40% tax, be lifted from £36,145 to £40,764.  He claims that up to one million families would benefit from a rise in this top rate income tax band.

In the past eight years, the number of people paying tax in this band has risen from 2.1 million to 3.4 million.
