Whilst the detached home remains the most popular and with the highest price tag, the terraced home has seen the biggest increase in price, over the last ten years, says the Halifax Estate Agent. Halifax has found that the price of a terraced house, in the United Kingdom, has increased by 113per cent, followed by the semi-detached property by 95per cent and even flats and maisonettes have increased by 87per cent.
However, the average price for the well loved detached home is now £326,396, which is a dramatic increase compared with the price in 1996 of £110,240. This still puts the detached property over the newly introduced inheritance tax threshold of £300,000.
Our view
Property prices are of course driven by demand. It is no surprise that demand for the less expensive end of the market i.e. cheaper but older and bigger terraced housing has outstripped other types.
