Swine Flu Travel Insurance Is A Pig
Holiday Which? has criticised a number of travel insurers who are refusing claims for people deciding not to travel to Mexico.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office FCWO has issued a travel warning for the region that non-essential travel should be avoided and as a result many people are deciding to heed the FCWO’s advice and not travel.
However, some travel insurers are declining to honour claims as FCWO warnings are not covered.
We have to say, this is bordering on a breach of the financial industry regulator, the FSA’s requirement of a principle known as TCF - Treating Customers Fairly.
We are sure that if FCWO advised not to travel to Afghanistan unless essential and claims are likley to be honoured as a military risk then this is the same for Mexico. The difference is nearly 30,000 are booked and insured to holiday in Mexico and not Afghanistan.
