
Strong First Half Car Sales.
The Society of Motoring Manufacturers (SMMT) has said that new car sales in the first half of the year has seen strong growth.
The latest figures show that new cars registered in the 6 months to June increased by 10.6% compared at the same point last year. The demand for alternatively fuelled cars also saw an increase rising 51.3% to 23,337.
This is the strongest half year sales since 2005.
The SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes said that “Improving economic conditions” was the cause of the rise and has helped to improve the UK car market.
The bestselling car was the Ford Fiesta selling 11,213 units in June alone, followed by the Vauxhall Corsa which sold 7,961. Year on year sales resulted in Ford taking the two top spots with the Fiesta selling 70,153 units and the Focus selling 44,754 units.
