The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has confirmed that emergency expenses paid out by British insurers to 1,500 families for things like alternative accommodation has mounted so far to £2.6m.

• Emergency expenses cover things like:
• Food
• Clothing
• Staff salaries (for businesses)
• Domestic appliance replacement
• Christmas gifts damages and replaced
• Alternative accommodation

The ABI estimates, via insurance company member firms, that the total cost will be £520m i.e. over half a billion pounds.

There have been

• 19,700 residential property claims
• 4,000 business property claims
• 2,800 motor insurance claims
• And 4,500 Loss Adjuster/Claims Inspector visits to help those with the most severe claims.
