Standard Life Launch Initiative For Charities

Published / Last Updated on 01/12/2002

Staff at Standard Life are being encouraged to support its ‘Give it Life’ initiative, which aims to raise over £250,000 for three specific charities.

Standard Life employees chose the Breast Cancer Campaign, Prostate Cancer Charity and the Royal National Institute for the Blind as the charities to be included in this fund raising initiative.  Representatives from each of the charities visited Standard Life’s main offices in Edinburgh recently, to explain their work and how donations are spent.

Each of the 13,500 Standard Life employees are being urged to either contribute or raise at least £25 over the next year for their chosen charity.  The RNIB is one of the UK’s biggest charities, offering numerous services to the two million people with serious sight problems in this country.  The Breast Cancer Campaign funds independent medical research to help understand how the disease develops, ways it could be cured or prevented and improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.  The Prostate Cancer Charity offers information and help to those affected as well as funding research.  It also offers support from experienced nurses and runs a confidential helpline.

A spokeswoman for Standard Life says that the work of these three charities is important to them and is in no doubt that their staff will be able to exceed the targets whilst having some fun at the same time.
