Stamp Duty Technically Up 9 Fold

Stamp duty on residential properties has increased more than nine-fold in the last ten years, a report by the Halifax has found.  The increase is reported to be from £465 million in 1993, to an estimated £4.3 billion in 2004.

The survey found that 81% of people in the UK think that the current stamp duty regime is unfair on first time buyers.
