Tentative Date for Spring Budget
by Ashley Clark, Director
The 2010 Spring Budget is widely expected to be on 24 March, according to a report in The Times. That would allow several days of Budget-related debate in the House of Commons before the dissolution of Parliament and the start of the election campaign.
The date of the General Election is now widely believed to be 6 May.
There would need to be a short Finance Bill, as there has been in similar situations in previous years. Its purpose would be to implement the essential aspects of the Budget, in particular the key tax rates and allowances.
