12% of all small business owners are regularly working over 70 hours per week, according to research conducted by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Long working hours, workload and tight deadlines were a cause of major stress.  Only 27% of small businesses stop trading due to insolvency or bankruptcy, the remaining 73% give up due to a variety of reasons.

The bank and independent study organisiation the Work-Life Research Centre advised that some of the vital ingredients for running a small business in the long term include having a good support network both inside and outside the business, investing time in planning and also being able to delegate to staff.
