Research by One Advice has found that single people are far more likely to have unsecured debt than married people.
Nearly one in ten people who live alone have debts of £10,000 or more, and around 200,000 single people have debts of £50,000 or more.
Our view
Not a surprise. Most singlies are just starting out on life so they borrow more. Likewise, they have no others depending on them e.g. children or partners so they perhaps do not have to worry about others if they die and leave debts.
