The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published figures in its Pensioners' Income Series Reports that the average net income for for all pensioners whether single or a couple is £237 per week.
However, the figures for a single female was just £172 per week compared to a single male of £190 per week.
Our view
Women do, on average, accrue lower benefits due to time off work etc. This is why they need to plan more than most.
