The EU has been blocked in its plans to prevent insurers offering different rates of insurance to different sexes.
Our view
This was ridiculous given that women live longer than men so their costs for life insurance is cheaper yet their pensions income annuity for the same pension fund invested may be lower as it is paid out for longer.
The EU plan, supported by the Greeks, has been defeated by the majority who agree that is was not fair.
