Sellers Packs May Be Delayed

Published / Last Updated on 06/03/2003

The much-debated Sellers Packs are due to be introduced in 2005/2006.  They will be compulsory for people selling their homes and aim to make the process simpler and more efficient.

The Government is supposed to be looking at Sellers Packs under the Housing Bill in Parliament in March.  However, with the threat of conflict with Iraq, many believe that the legislation will be postponed.  Thousands of surveyors will have to be retrained in time for the introduction of the Sellers Packs in order to carry out home condition reports.  This is a tall order in itself.

Despite the scepticism, a spokesperson for the Deputy Prime Minister said "The Housing Bill is due to be introduced to Parliament in March.  We have not been making plans for a delay".
