Published / Last Updated on 21/12/2017

Just a gentle reminder whilst you are busy last minute present shopping or struggling through supermarket queues that is it is not only the festive season, it is also time to prepare for tax season.

Self-assessment tax returns for tax year 2016/2017 are due to be filed by the 31/01/2018.  Just 6 weeks away.

So in between Christmas and New Year, it’s time to dig out:

  • Your P60 earnings and tax statement
  • P11D (benefits in kind) statement
  • Self employment income and expenses
  • Bank interest statements
  • Dividend slips
  • Pension contributions history
  • Pension income statements (annuity and drawdown)
  • Other taxable income items such as gilt coupons (interest), rental income and expenses (both mortgage interest and other property expenses), taxable state benefits, taxable redundancy pay, foreign income etc

Don’t leave it too late

HMRC’s online self-assessment platform gets extremely busy towards the end of January, take the stress away and file your self-assessment return earlier rather than later.
