A survey by the Yorkshire Bank has found that one in three people would be put off buying a property if the house next door looked in a state of disrepair or had an overgrown garden.
A further one in five would be put off a property that was otherwise perfect, but had an unusual smell.
Thirty one per cent would like to buy a home that they could move straight into, without having to do any work on it, but one in five of those surveyed by the bank have said that they would be keen on buying a house that needs a lot of work doing to it in the hope of adding value.
