Scot Eq Name In Question

Published / Last Updated on 19/01/2003

Aegon, the Dutch insurer and parent company of a well known Scottih pensions company, is said to be reviewing the marketing brand of Scottish Equitable and will soon decide whether it is to continue or just fall under the Aegon brand.

Scottish Equitable has been around since 1831 but was purchased by Aegon in 1998. Aegon's UK Head of Public Affairs commented that being part of the Aegon group with its financial strength is an important factor in the business. We would not rule out changing the use of the Aegon name.

In terms of brand awareness, people in the finance industry are well aware of Scottish Equitable but consumers are not so aware.  There have been many Scottish companies in the marketplace and they can become confusing for consumers.  There have also been problems with consumers linking Scottish Equitable with Equitable Life.   Definitely not too good for business!
