Save For Your Children Now Or Face The Consequences

Published / Last Updated on 06/07/2005

The Children's Mutual believes that new parents should start saving now to avoid their adult children living at home.  The company is warning that unless parents take action now, they could either end up having to re-mortgage to cover university or other child issues or end up with adult children in their home for many years to come.

In a response to BBC2's Money Programme, The Children's Mutual has calculated that if parents had saved £50 per month for the last 18 years, they would have a nest egg of around £26,000 by now.

Our view

Society now is very expensive and our children may need all the help we can give them, perhaps saving in the longer term will be the least painful way.
