The housing and planning minister Brandon Lewis has unveiled plans to give more powers and support to people who wish to build their own homes. The minister released the details of the new Right to Build policy, this means that those who are looking to build their own home can get assistance off their council to help find the right plot of land.

The new plans are being unveiled at the same time as the private members bill for Right to Build register is going through parliament. The Right to Build is already used in 11 areas where custom home builders are finding the right build ready sites for themselves.

The new policy was a main part of the governments drive to help people who wished to own a home but saw a better opportunity in building a home rather than buying an existing one.
