Retirement Villages Becoming More Popular

Published / Last Updated on 04/05/2006

Research from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation has found that retirement villages are becoming more popular with older people.  Twenty-four hour on site care and support, more opportunities to make friends, yet still having "your own front door" while still being able to lead an active life are given as the main reasons that are attracting people.

The study also examined how retirement villages could be made more affordable to older people with different levels of income.  Research found that some older people are willing to give up home ownership to release equity to fund care needs, and free themselves from the responsibility of owning property.

We expect this to become a growing trend both in the UK and overseas.
