
Retail Sales Continue to Grow.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has produced figures which show that retail sales continued to grow in June. The amount of goods being sold in UK shops and supermarkets grew by 0.1% in June from May, meaning that it was 3.6% higher than last year.
The 1.6% sales increase for the second quarter was the highest rise for 10 years. The price of goods sold also dropped in May by 0.7%, meaning prices of goods sold were at the same point as last year.
The amount spent online also increased by 13.4% in June 2014 compared with last year, but decreased from May by 0.1%. This was the first time since January we have seen a decrease. The online amount accounted for 11.3% of all retail spending excluding fuel, this was up when compared with the 10.4% at the same point last year.
