
Retail Figures Rise.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released a report that shows retail sales in December rose 5.3% compared to 2012. This is the fastest rise in 9 years.
Adjusted figures for non-seasonal sales show that year-on-year growth for small stores saw a bigger rise than larger stores. Small stores saw an 8.1% rise in sales while larger stores only saw a 2.6% rise.
The amount of money being spent also increased in December to 6.1% compared with the year before and 2.6% with the previous month.
Seasonally adjusted figures show that internet sales rose by 11.8% in December 2013 compared with the year before.
The monthly survey by the ONS polls 5,000 retailers.
