Half of small businesses believe that recent changes to employment legislation have made their firms more costly to run. New research from the Tenon Forum Think Tank revealed that amended maternity, paternity and disability legislation is putting higher day-to-day costs on small businesses that want to take on more staff. Around 40% of firms with five to nine employees said that new employment regulations meant that they have sustained additional costs. This figure rose to 57% among businesses with 10 to 199 members.
Our view
We totally agree with the research. really has to think long and hard about recruitment and under what terms we recruit on. The pitfalls are very large and deep!
