Record Numbers Out Of Work

Published / Last Updated on 25/02/2004

According to the Office for National Statistics 7.85 million people that have attained working age are not working and not actively looking for work.  This basically means that for every 5 people at working age, only 1 person is working!

Our View

Surely this must tell the Government that State benefits are far too beneficial!  The State system has long favoured those that do not want to work, giving money out hand over fist.

However, we do not know what proportion of the 7.85 million claims benefits.   We believe that if people are in good health and of working age, with no disabilities to hinder them in work, they should work or not be given State benefits.  It is the only way to ensure the State system is fair and that the money goes to those people that really need it.
