Price of Death Certificate Just Went Up

Published / Last Updated on 21/02/2019

Death Certificate charges went up from Saturday, to £11.00 each.

Death certificates are required to send to authorities, life assurance companies and banks to get ownership or authority transferred on death.

Usually, we suggest relatives may require up to 10 copies to send to various organisations costing you now £110.00. If you don’t order enough and have to re-order extra copies later, the price also has been raised to £11.00 each.

The cost of birth and marriage certificates also will be changing.

This is the first increase since 2010 and the fee is set at recovery cost levels, registration officers do have the right to waive or reduce fees on compassionate grounds or hardship.

Comment

Probate fees going up, death certificate costs going up and the inheritance tax nil rate band still frozen for 10 years, save the addition of a residential property nil rate band, still means many people suffer taxes on death as well as increasing fees on loved ones left behind.
