People in Work 37 Year High
According to the Office of National Statistics, despite a deepening credit crunch and the threat to the mortgage sector, the number of people in work is the highest since the inflation-ridden days of the Sir Edward Heath administration.
Employment levels rose by 166,000 over the past three months and by 367,000 over the year to reach 29.5m – the highest figure since comparable levels began in 1971.
Our view
The economy is not in as bad a position as we all think. We just suggest people should be a little more prudent and plan their finances for worst case scenario rather than have no plan.
