Pensioners Keep Working

Figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) have revealed, a record number of pensioners are getting jobs or staying in work because they cannot afford to retire.  Up to 1.3 million Britons of retirement age continue to go to work, making up the fastest growing age group in the workforce.

In the last three months, they accounted for 46 per cent of the country’s entire 76,000 increase in employment.  In 1993, there were just 771,000 over state pension age who had jobs.  The ONS figures come after the government admitted 300,000 more of the elderly have fallen below the poverty line in a year.

Our view

The economic climate and the population is constantly changing.  We need to plan for our retirement earlier and save as much as we can.
