Pension Changes Bill Fails

Published / Last Updated on 14/05/2002

The Private Members Bill sponsored by Tory MP David Curry has finally failed after a number of succeses in the House.

In simple terms, the Bill was trying to get greater flexibility for people when they come to retirement age.  For example having the choice not to have to secure all your retirement by annuity by a given age.  It failed because it simple ran out of time.

The Government has not been keen on this Bill succeeding as they wish to conduct their own review. For the full history on the Bill and the proposed changes click here.
