Parents Lending A Financial Hand

Published / Last Updated on 20/03/2007

In a study by GE Life it is found that more parents are helping their children for longer than a generation ago. The study found that two thirds of over 50s didn’t received financial help from their parents once they were in their 20s.

However, of the same people questioned some said that they continued to help their dependants even after they have become parents as they feel it is their responsibility or they need their assistance.

Our view

Given the increase in wealth for some of the current older, property owning generation, is it any wonder that they are trying to help their children whilst alive rather than leaving them wealth when they die.
