Not Joined Your Company Pension Scheme?

Published / Last Updated on 20/03/2006

Research by Scottish Equitable has recently found that around 3 million employees do not take up the opportunity to join occupational pension schemes, which is around £20 billion in lost contributions by employers.

They believe that auto enrolment, proposed by the government, might not solve the problem of under provision of pensions in the UK, as not all employers are ready to do this.

This follows the launch of Scottish Equitable's Supporting Pensions in the Workplace initiative, which is aimed at increasing take up for group pension schemes.

Our view

Most of us should join our company pension scheme if one is available, particularly where employers are paying in.
