National Consensus On Saving

Speaking at a recent conference, the minister of state for pensions reform Steven Timms, has said that the government aims to create a national consensus regarding pensions and savings.  He said that the Pensions Commissions white paper, due in Spring 2006, would promote individual responsibility for economic provision for the future. 

A seven-point plan is being launched by the Financial Services Authority to raise public financial understanding, including addressing financial capabilities in the national curriculum, and providing generic advice in the workplace. 

Our view 

At last, education - the thing we have been suggesting for six years.  A child can leave school knowing about Newtons Laws but has no clue how to write a cheque!
