Medical Insurance Stops At Retirement

A report in leading industry newspaper Financial Adviser, has highlighted findings that only 25% of those who have Private Medical Insurance whilst at work as a company benefit then elect to continue it after they retire.

The report mentioned that perhaps one of the key reasons is people do not fully appreciate the costs of the benefit offered by their employer until they are required to pay for it themselves.

Our View

No shocks there then!   Most employees do not value what employers do for them.   Many moan about working conditions, pay and benefits with little or no idea of what an employer pay out in the background in the form of National Insurance, Pension benefits or other.

Employees should vote with their feet if they are not happy - or indeed try employing someone themselves and see how hard you have to work for your employees.
