The Chartered Management Institute has released figures that just under half of 3,000 managers surveyed fail to take their full annual leave entitlement compared to just over a third failing to do the same last year.
It cites worry and concerns about work whilst away and the general increase in pressure being the culprit.
Our view
We work harder to play harder. More and more of us want a particular lifestyle for us and our families. As a result we work harder to achieve those goals. This can prove fruitless if it causes health problems.
On the other hand, as an employer, if you pay somebody huge sums of money you expect them to work hard for it!
Some schools of thought are: 'It goes with the territory. You are paid well to take the strain.'
A Product Director once said to director, Ashley Clark, when Ashley was a Regional Pensions Manager for Legal & General Group: "If you don't like it then you know where the door is!" So that is exactly what he did. He left, set up Group and , won a huge number of National and International Awards for changing the way people seek and obtain financial advice.
In addition, he takes more holiday time with family and friends to ensure that he is fully recharged to drive the company forward. As he said: "If you are permanently tired or stressed out you cannot possibly make the best decisions for you, your clients, your employees or your business!".
"Life is too short! Take a break". He added.
