Legal and General (L & G) has acquired Alliance & Leicester Life in a £84 million bid to boost fund assets.
All existing A & L protections and life assurance products will be sold under the L & G brand with effect from 1 August 2002.
The move means that Alliance & Leicester will exit the life product line altogether, and instead offer a complete range of L& G life products through its 310 outlets.
