The new ‘Houses in Multiple Occupancy’ legislation is now in force and only a small number of councils have not got measures in place to deal with multiple occupancy licence applications.
Around 86 per cent of councils have already begun to target landlords who are trying to avoid applying for a home in multiply occupancy licence.
The Local Authorities Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services are pleased that councils are taking the appropriate action against landlords who are operating outside of the home in multiple occupancy restrictions.
Our view
This is good news for tenants, as it improves their health and safety risk, while at the same time reduces the number or poor landlords.
