Japanese Stock Markets Close for a Week

Published / Last Updated on 30/04/2020

The Tokyo Stock Exchange and all Japanese stock markets closed last night and no trading will occur from today 1st May until 6th May 2020 for Japan’s annual Golden Week holiday.

During this period, different fund management groups are taking different approaches to handling trades and you may experience delays in trading and customer payments on the impacted funds.

For most of us, all trades have been temporarily suspended and will resume again from 7th May 2020.

Pensions, Investments and ISA Plans - not all companies will be the same but in the main

  • New investment and existing fund switching or redirections for Japan funds will now not be actioned until markets open again on the 7th
  • Regular Direct Debits should continue as normal and the trade instructed but not actioned until the 7th
  • Auto rebalancing and auto fund switching will be suspended for many funds in May and be reinstated for June.
